Initial Contact
The thought of counseling can sometimes feel overwhelming or scary due to the unknown. However, we hope that you feel comfortable making the first step towards your emotional and wellness goals by contacting us today.
Phone Consultation
The phone consultation allows for us to get to know each other some before an initial session. Secondly, this provides an opportunity for you to decide if we are a good fit to meet each other. Lastly, the phone consultation gives you a chance to ask questions you have about therapy, as well as discuss the rates for the type of service that best suits your needs.
Make an Appointment
If it feels right, we will schedule an appointment over the phone. We will collaborate to find a convenient time that works with your schedule and get you on track toward your goals.
Complete Paperwork
Once your appointment is scheduled, you will receive instructions for filling out the necessary online paperwork. By having this paperwork done ahead of time, we’ll have more time to get to know each other and talk about the things you’re actually there to talk about in your first counseling session.
Arriving at Homecoming Wellness
Homecoming Wellness is located at 3732 Lakeside Drive, Suite 202, Reno, NV 89509, in the Sierra Lakeside Professional Offices off of Lakeside and Moana. These are commercial condominiums, so it can be confusing to get to the entrance as the entrance is on the 2nd floor from the back of the building. There is NO ENTRANCE from the bottom units.
It is best to turn right after the initial driveway, left up the hill, and left again so you are now parallel to the back of the buildings.
The building is the 2nd from the left with ample parking directly in front. Walk down the walkway on the left side of the building and the door will be on your right.
Attend Your First Session
Don’t forget to complete your paperwork online before the session!
Once you arrive, be sure to check in at the kiosk to the right of the lobby entrance (near the coffee and tea bar), make yourself comfortable in our waiting room, and I will come get you when ready.
The first session is really a time for us to get to know each other and discuss your hopes and needs. We will discuss confidentiality, the process of therapy, including your expectations for counseling. In addition, we will begin to focus on potential areas of strength and improvement. We’ll talk about what is happening in your life in whatever way you feel comfortable and about the direction you’d like to go. From there, we’ll discuss options in moving forward.
What are Sessions Like?
You know the saying “it gets worse before it gets better?” It’s a true statement, especially once we start the real work after the first few sessions. There’s no sugar-coating self-work in order to change. You will be pushed, at times what seems hard, while in therapy. I will validate, explore, encourage, redirect, coach, and will be frank when you don’t want to and when you need to hear it. At times, it will feel like there has been little progress, and I will remind you how far you’ve come.
There’s a lot of training behind me, with applied personal and professional experience. I am not just winging it with you. Therapy will be structured, strategic, and catered to your goals. And yes, there will be homework. The work towards connection really is between sessions and not only what happens in therapy. It will be magical and challenging all at the same time.
You might be asked to identify a support person to engage in a couple of sessions with you. This can be a spouse, parent, close friend, someone who is rooting for you. We find having this person better understand your response to stressors can further assist them in better supporting you during your healing journey. However, it is not a requirement either. It’s up to you who’s involved in your healing.
Throughout therapy, we will discuss the progress and decide if we need to change goals, add goals, or be done with therapy. It’s very much a collaborative effort.
When do Sessions End?
Some clients need only a few counseling sessions to achieve their goals, while others may require more. As a client, you have the right to end therapy at any time. Should you choose to end your counseling sessions, we only ask that you return for one final session to discuss progress and create a plan for your life outside of therapy.
